Personal STATEMENT |
|
I enjoy all aspects of art and am particularly enthused by the work of young and emerging artists. I believe that there is huge satisfaction in creating a piece of art and to have it enjoyed by others.
In promoting my own work as a practising artist I have been invited to show my work at various local galleries. The experience I gained from assisting in setting up the display for the Hereford College of Art at the New Designers Show in Islington helped me understand the logistics and organisation necessary for a large event.
Gallery work experience involved:
Liaising with my fellow artists, arranging for secure crating and delivery on time of the art items, together with the physical setting up and dismantling of the stand at the finish of the exhibition. Successfully negotiating with galleries such as Bowie and Hulbert to sell my work on commission Discussing the methods and ideas that I used to create the pieces with the general public and gallery managers Ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the gallery and organizing promotion, marketing and advertising of exhibitions and shows Assessment and selection of art work Organizing equipment hire Liaising with visiting artists and negotiating sales Cataloguing acquisitions and keeping records and archives Keeping up to date with industry developments and market trends General administration, budgeting, finance and accounts.
Creation and promotion of own artwork:
From that exhibition, which ran at the time of the Hay Literary Festival , I gained some sales and commissions. It was essential that I had my own publicity material and website organised [ www.jennielane.co.uk ] and that I attended the opening functions and mixed with the invited guests.
I recently took the opportunity of showing my work at The creative Arts and Craft Fair in Queenstown along with many other local artists, It was great fun to promote and speak about my work and inspirations. http://www.marketplace.net.nz/
In order to produce my own work, I have had to budget and administer my finances . I have had to commission bespoke framing and deal with specialist suppliers of my wools and threads. I have also had to develop mounting techniques appropriate to my work.
I feel that I am a dedicated and personable employee, In order to fund my travels abroad I have recently been working in the hospitality business, where my experience of catering and waiting skills have been very useful. In this respect I have had to teamwork, to take personal responsibility and operate the business in accordance with management instructions.
